Virginia hosted Donaghadee on Saturday last in the Ulster Championship Division 3.
Under dry but windy conditions, Virginia pushed the undefeated league winners but could not put the to the sword!
Virginia played against the wind in the first half and it didn't take long for Donaghadee to make hay of their territorial advantage.
With 10 minutes in the game, they found a gap in the middle of Virginia's defense for their center to score unopposed in between the posts. 7-0 with the easy conversion.
Donaghadee double their tally at the 25th minutes when once again they managed to out smart Virginia's defense. 14-0
Nothing happened until the break with both teams cancelling each other effort.
Virginia were now playing with the wind and quickly asserted their domination on the game. They put their visitors under huge pressure at scrum and lineout time starving them of ball time. With the lion share of possession was only a question of time until Virginia reduced the score.
They did so, when following good inter play between forwards and backs, winger Vaidotas Juodis collected an great off-load from Niall Patterson to beat the last defender and score. Kealan "John Eales" O'Connell kicked the conversion to reduce the score 14-7.
Virginia really turned the screw at scrum time and their effort were rewarded when they elected for a scrums after Donaghadee infringed near their line. Donaghadee's pack could not match Virginia's scrum and after conceding a third scrum penalty, the excellent official on the day had no option but to award a penalty try. 14-14 with 15 minutes left on the clock.
Virginia pushed hard, sensing that the game was for the taking but they could not conclude and it was Donaghadee would snatch the win with a great effort from close range in the money time! The conversion was not scored and the referee blew his whistle. 19-14
A cruel end of the game for Virginia who really felt they could continue their winning run with a 7th successive win and end Donaghadee unbeaten league run! But it wasn't to be.
The lads will now take a well deserve break for the summer, they would like to thanks everyone who supported them during the season home and away.
